Equality Impact Assessment

‘Equality impact assessment (EIA) is the term given to a review of an institution’s policies to ensure that the institution is not discriminating unlawfully – and it is making a positive contribution to equality.  It is the process of assessing the impact of existing or proposed policies and practices in relation to their consequences for equality.’

The University has a legal duty to carry out Equality Impact Assessments. The duty is enforceable under the Equality Act (2010) and the Welsh Public Sector Duties (2011). All public authorities must ensure that they take action to assess the impact on the Protected Characteristics of Sex, Race, Disability, Age, Gender Reassignment, Religion or Belief, Sexual Orientation, and Pregnancy and Maternity as outlined in the Equality Act 2010.
