Student and Graduate Talent

Business, employers and individuals can take advantage of some of the great opportunities available to them for recruiting new graduates and skilled staff, either on a full-time basis, or for short-term project work.

Many funding programmes exist to enable companies to take on graduate staff for specified amounts of time to work on projects which will help the organisation to develop - see supported commercial research projects.

In addition, many of our academic courses include an element of work-based learning where students undertake work placements for companies and organisations within the local area.

GO Wales offers a range of services to help SMEs (small to medium enterprises) recruit, retain and develop graduate staff. We also work with larger companies and the public sector. Companies can benefit from hosting a work placement, offering work experience to a student or graduate, accessing funding for training and developing graduate staff; or advertising a graduate vacancy free of charge. GO Wales is funded by the EU Convergence Fund and the Welsh Assembly Government and is delivered by all the higher education institutions in Wales. For further information, please visit the GO Wales web page.

" I just wanted to record our thanks for the help GO Wales has given us over the last 18 months. The quality of the graduates has been good, and this system helps them gain experience and confidence. Our experiences have been good and of benefit to our business. We would like to thank you very much for letting us take part in the programme. Keep up the great work."
Phil Terrett, CEO, The Third Stage Group

Access to Masters (ATM)
This programme provides a postgraduate Masters student with a scholarship that allows them to combine their Masters study with experience of working in an Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Digital Economy, Health & Bioscience, or Low Carbon Economy sector business based in the Convergence Areas of Wales.

A Masters student can add value to a business challenge or issue by delivering advanced technical or professional projects, or designing and applying appropriate research methodologies. They are supported for the duration of your project by a highly experienced, academic supervisor. The host business provides ‘in-kind’ support via a named ‘supervisor’ within the company for the duration of the project.

Student Projects
You can set projects for students as ‘live-briefs’ based on problems, opportunities, or issues relevant to your organisation. This provides students with the chance to learn from projects related to the world of work. There is no financial cost to you for participating, however organisations often provide a prize for the best student work.
