THE CERTIFICATE OF HIGHER EDUCATION (COMBINED OPEN STUDIES) PROGRAMME
Flexible Part Time Study for adults in the community, workplace and at Caerleon and Newport City Centre campuses. You can take individual modules to update knowledge or simply for pleasure and still earn Higher Education credits (Level 4) which can be used to gain a nationally recognised award.
How does it work?
We recommend that you plan to take the Cert HE COS Programme over at least 2 years. The majority of our modules run for 10-12 weeks and are worth 10 credits each. On successful completion of 12 modules (gaining 120 credits) you will be awarded the Certificate of Higher Education - Combined Open Studies. Accumulating a pattern of modules in certain subjects may enable you to gain exemption from part of Year 1 or, in some cases, entry onto Year 2 of a relevant degree programme.
What is on offer ?
These are just some of the courses that we deliver on campus and in our community venues:

Where can I study?
At the Caerleon and Newport City Centre campuses and community based learning centres and venues in Newport, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and parts of Monmouthshire.
How much will it cost?
Course fees are £107.50. In many cases you will be eligible for fee bursaries that cover all or part of these costs. Your Learning Development Officer will advise you on eligibility.
How do I enrol?
The Cert HE (COS) Programme is a rolling-entry scheme with new enrolments each term (September, January and April) enabling learners to join the programme at any time of year. It is an informal process which takes place in class on the first day. No previous qualifications are necessary - just an interest in the subject and although students are normally over 18, there is no upper age limit.
