The ‘Newport style’ of History is built around the use of as wide a range of sources as possible: archaeology, landscape (including the built landscape), material and visual evidence as well as traditional documentary sources. Perception of these sources is often mediated through the cultural heritage industry. An increasing number of our graduates seek careers in the heritage industry, and it is appropriate to provide modules which encourage them to reflect on the relationship between history and heritage as well as teaching practical skills in Heritage Studies.
