Arriving in the UK by air

The University of South Wales offers a free airport collection service from London Heathrow airport to the Newport campuses. (restrictions apply).

Most of our students arrive into London Heathrow airport. We offer a ‘free’ airport collection service (conditions and restrictions apply).

There are excellent road and rail links from all major UK airports. Below is information to assist you should you arrive at another UK airport or need to make your own onward travel arrangements.

London Heathrow Airport

*This fast non-stop train goes from Gatwick into central London (London Victoria Station).  From here you can take a train to Newport, or National Express coach.

Both Cardiff and Bristol airports are less than one hour drive from Newport. Using public transport will take longer.

Getting around the UK

The rest of the UK is easily accessible from University:
By Road: campus is just 3 miles from the major motorway, the M4. London is only about two hours away via the M4, while other motorways and dual carriageways connect Newport with the North, Midlands, South East and South West England and West Wales. Both campuses are signposted from the M4.

By Rail: Newport has a main line train station with excellent Intercity services to Newport from all major cities including Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham, London, Nottingham, Portsmouth and Manchester.
• The centre of Cardiff is only a 12 minute train journey from Newport
• London is one hour and forty minutes away
• Birmingham two hours by high speed trains which operate hourly.

By Coach: Newport is served by regular National Express coaches from London, West Wales, the North, Midlands and South West England. There is also a direct service from Heathrow and Gatwick Airports.

Getting to the city centre from Caerleon Campus:

The University has two Newport campuses, situated in the city centre of Newport and Caerleon, which is four miles from Newport city centre.



The University has teamed up with Newport Bus to provide staff and students with a much improved bus service which will not only provide safe and secure travel between campuses, but will open up heavily discounted travel on routes across the city and beyond.
