The Children Who built Victorian Britain, a BBC4 history programme broadcast last year has been nominated for Best History Production in the 2012 History Makers Awards. The Awards recognise the best productions in history, current affairs and non fiction programming from across the world.

The Children who Built Victorian Britain used the skills of animation students at the University of Wales, Newport to bring to life the stories of youngsters who worked in British industry during the brutal days of the industrial revolution.

Caroline Parsons, Programme Leader for BA Animation at the University’s award winning Film School said: “By working with BBC Wales on this project, we were able to provide our students with a brilliant experience in creating work for a national piece of programming.
“Everyone at Newport Film School is delighted with this nomination which adds further to what is already great experience for the students involved, particularly as this is a genuinely international set of awards with nominations from across the world.”

Christina Macaulay, Executive Producer for BBC Cymru Wales said:  "BBC Cymru Wales is thrilled with this nomination.  We felt that the collaboration with Newport students produced a highly original programme and it is wonderful that this is being recognised on the international stage".

The awards take place this Thursday 26th January in New York.
