Newport students secure 22 Ffresh Nominations

13-01-2012

Animators, documentarians and drama film students from the University of Wales, Newport’s acclaimed Film School are celebrating an unprecedented 22 nominations for the Ffresh Film Festival 2012. Animation, and MA Film students each took four out the five nominations in their particular categories while Documentary Film and Games students took three nominations in total.

The annual student film festival of Wales, which will be held in Newport Film School and the Riverfront Arts Centre this year (8th-10th February 2012) celebrates the best work of all the film courses across Welsh Higher Education institutions. As well as the awards, the Festival boasts an impressive selection of master-classes and guest speakers from the film and television world including Oscar nominated and Palme D’Or winning filmmaker Mike Leigh and ex Newport film student and BAFTA nominated director of ‘Senna’, Asif Kapadia.

Professor Christopher Morris of the University of Wales, Newport’s Film School said: “What is so pleasing is that Newport students achieved nominations in all but one category. There is first year work as well as graduate work represented in the nominations and I think that is a wonderful testament to the quality of the films, animations and games our students produce.”
The jury for this year’s awards included the acclaimed Welsh TV director Euros Lyn, Norwegian based motion designer and digital artist Kim Holm, Bristol based animation studio A Large Evil Corporation and Newport University, Film School graduates Rhys Waters and Nathan Mackintosh from Zipline Creative.
