The best up and coming music talent from the University of Wales Newport’s School of Art Media and Design will be showcased at the Riverfront Theatre on the 6th and 7th of May at Creative Sound & Music 011.
The show is a collection of work produced by 3rd year students of the Creative Sound and Music BA (CSM) degree.
Since the course's inception, students have delivered a high standard of engaging, explosive and entertaining work all set to a background of theoretical and cultural musings. This year's 3rd year students are no exception; they are exploring new areas of technology, music and media arts. Alongside the music, artists will be exhibiting installations and Audio Visual work.
Artists performing at the event include LannyBOOM, Oscar Later, Jauge, Ecstatics, and The Alpha Theory. Joining the artists will be electro-pop outfit Mike Fantastic. The band rose to national acclaim after their performance on “Britain’s Got Talent”. This led to a number of sold out nationwide headline tours, and a supporting slot on Peter Andre’s 2010 UK arena tour.
From pounding techno rhythms to experimental ambience, from crafted pop to musical ink-drops in; local people are invited to come and meet the future of music.
As well as previously featuring Mike Fantastic, Newport’s Creative Sound and Music shows have previously featured a range of artists who have gone on to big things including Swn festival favorites, Trwbador. Since their performance at last year’s “Creative Sound and Music 010”, Trwbador have enjoyed extensive airplay on local radio and on BBC Radio 1.
This year’s artists have already found acclaim, featuring on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing as well as featuring in magazines and receiving external funding to further their work, pushing the boundaries of music.
The performances take place on the 6th and 7th of May at 7pm. As well as the evening performances, exhibitions of the techniques and work of CSM students will be on display at the Riverfront from 10am on both days.
