3VTV – The Micro-Broadcasting Centre

3VTV is a local television channel for Blaenau Gwent. Broadcast online and on-demand, it is a pilot project in hyperlocal media – media for a very local audience - which aims to:

• Help boost the local economy by encouraging businesses to use hyperlocal media to advertise, giving them an audience on their doorsteps and a platform to extend their customer base further.
• Encourage people in Blaenau Gwent to go online and increase participation in digital media.
• Give Blaenau Gwent a platform to champion itself, and tell all the good stories going on in the county borough.

The name 3VTV stands for Three Valleys, because the channel is for everyone in the three valleys which make up Blaenau Gwent. 3VTV is run by The Centre for Hyperlocal Media, a University of Wales, Newport project funded by the Welsh Government.

The channel shows short films and programmes about and of interest to local people, and encourages people in Blaenau Gwent to get involved by submitting their own content, including films and blogs.

The 3VTV team, which includes professional film-makers, is working with businesses in Blaenau Gwent to encourage them to use video for marketing. Qualifying businesses can have a free "taster" ad made and broadcast on 3VTV, and the business can include the ad on their own website and social media pages. The project aims to help these businesses see first-hand the benefits of video marketing and to encourage them to continue their advertising campaigns by engaging with the creative industries sector.
