Biography : John Deering was a social worker and probation officer before entering higher education, initially to teach trainee probation officers. He later developed the youth justice undergraduate courses at Newport and now teaches across the criminology/criminal justice and youth justice degrees.

- Research Expertise or Interest : My areas of interest are the criminal justice system and processes, in particular the probation service and the youth justice system. I am also interested in the wider field of social justice.
