What Makes This Course So Special?

The course will help you to develop your theoretical understanding of the influence of psychology in an array of working contexts as well as integrating and adapting this knowledge for workplace practice and differing organisational environments.

You will develop a number of key skills for business from the evaluation of business psychology theory and practice. This means you will be increasing not only your employability potential but also your portfolio of transferable skills and career mobility. The international elements of the course add another dimension to your qualification, equipping you for work in today's global environment.

Course Intro

This course is for you if you are looking to progress your career in a wide range of business environments, or if you wish to continue your professional development.

You will examine the psychological theories and models underpinning effective communication and leadership practice. You will apply psychological theory and practice to key issues that effect the internal and external communications of organisations. You will also focus on how change in organisations can be managed by enhancing psychological strategies for effective change management. This is vital when solving problems such as recruiting the best people for different organisational roles or managing employees in times of economic turbulence and unrest.

If you are interested in studying an individual module then you may do this as a stand alone certificate with the option of returning to complete the full masters.

What you study

Certificate Stage (3 modules)
The Certificate stage involves completion of the following module:
Psychological Theory and Applications in the Workplace
For this module you will draw on the work of classical and contemporary researchers in the field of organisational behaviour. You will explore core themes and concepts in relation to various working environments.

Plus two additional modules from the following:
Effective Communication within Organisations
On this module you will examine models of communication and some of the barriers to communication which exist in organisations. You will develop and evaluate practical strategies to carry out internal communication audits and accompanying practical interventions based on psychological evidence.

Developing and Managing External Communication
This module will examine how organisations communicate with many and varied external contacts. You will focus on issues such as advertising and marketing and the psychological impact strategies have on consumer behaviour.

Leadership in 21st Century Organisations
The changing nature of organisations and the response of leaders to such changes will be studied on this module. You will examine psychological models of leadership and evaluate them in terms of their contribution to approaches to leadership. You will also analyse the language and behaviour of leaders in ensuring effective leader/employee relations.

Managing Organisational Culture and Change
For this module you will study both internal cultural issues which arise and impact on an organisation and its identity as well as the relevant psychological processes for managing change in organisations across a range of scenarios and experiences.

Diploma Stage (3 modules)
The Diploma stage will require you to complete the remaining two modules from the above, plus the following:
Research Methods and Project Management Skills for use in Organisations
You will develop both academic research and project management skills for the business environment throughout this module.

Masters Stage
Dissertation

Yes. We want to give you the opportunity to ask us questions that are important to you in addition to us assessing your suitability for the course. This can be via skype if you are unable to get to campus. Tutors will take time to explain the content of the programme to you and answer questions you have about the course. 

Assessment

Assessments will take the form of organisational audits, essays, case studies, critical reviews, presentations and a final stage dissertation.

• Full-time: 16 months (including dissertation)
• Part-time: 28 months (including dissertation)

You will only be required to spend one day a week 1-7pm for 10 weeks & from 4-7pm for the remaining 14 weeks on campus. This will be supplemented by home study and distance learning.

Study time will vary if you choose the ‘part-time’ route.

Entry Requirements

• Undergraduate degree. Exceptions would be made if you have considerable working experience in business environments and/or professional qualifications from these environments.
• If English is not your first language, you are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English Language at IELTS level 6 or equivalent.
