Applying for postgraduate courses 


UK Students

All applicants wishing to apply for postgraduate courses should apply directly to Newport apart from those applying for initial teacher training qualifications.

If you would like to apply for a postgraduate course (excluding full-time PGCE’s), we would like to invite you to apply using our online application facililty.

You can also obtain an application form by contacting the University Information Centre on 01633 432432. or download a direct application form. 

This form is also available in Welsh upon request. Most courses start in September but some courses may have alternative start dates and the University Information Centre should be contacted for up to date information regarding this.

Applying for Initial Teacher Training Qualifications

If you are a graduate and want to apply for an initial teacher training qualification, you must apply through the Graduate Teacher Training Registry (GTTR) online at www.gttr.ac.uk

All the help you need is on the website, but if you are still on your degree course at university or college, advice will be available from your tutor or a careers adviser. If you have left, advice is available from various careers organisations (such as Careers Wales). As part of the process, you pay for the application online using a credit card or debit card. You should also be aware that you will need to provide details of your referee (who must be able to supply a reference electronically). European Union (EU) Students

Students from within the EU should apply in the same way as UK applicants as detailed in previous sections. If you intend to apply to Newport you will need to demonstrate sufficient skills in English Language in order to complete your chosen course successfully.

You will need one of the following:
•  The British Council’s International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) with a score of six or more
•  TOEFL (Teaching Others English as a Foreign Language) with a score of 550 or more
