Funding for Tuition Fees

Tuition Fees for 2012/2013

The University, along with other Universities in Wales submitted a 2012/13 "Fee Plan" to HEFCW, the Welsh Funding Council on 31 May 2011, and received approval of its Fee Plan on the 11 July 2011 from HEFCW.
The new fees will apply to new full-time EU and UK undergraduates entering in 2012/13, including those who have deferred entry until 2012.
Continuing students from 2010/11 and 2011/12 will continue to pay fees charged on the previous system and will not pay the same fee as a new student.

Under the proposals, focussed on helping the least well off gain access to Higher Education and improving the quality of the student experience at Newport, two levels of fees have been set for students beginning in September 2012: £8,250 and £9,000.

Funding for Tuition Fees

Students resident in Wales

The Welsh Assembly Government will be awarding all students that are resident in Wales before they start in September 2012 with a Tuition Fee Grant. This means that students from Wales will only take out a Tuition Fee Loan of £3,465 for their fees, as the government is paying the outstanding total, up to £9,000.
The Tuition Fee Loan will be repayable when a student starts earning £21,000 or more.

Students from Wales must apply through the Student Finance Wales PN1 form to qualify for the Tuition Fee Loan and Tuition Fee Grant. (Please ensure that you note the full tuition fee of £8,250 or £9,000).

Students resident in England

Students from England will be able to get a Tuition Fee Loan that will cover the tuition fee cost of £9,000. This will be repayable when a student starts earning £21,000 or more.

Students must apply for the tuition fee loan via the Student Finance England PN1 form.
