Georgina Harris, Justin Cliffe, Antonio Rimola are Tin Shed Theatre Co.
As a theatre Company our careers have started to really pick up over the past year. Initially after leaving uni we went our separate ways, getting jobs with various touring companies yet always knowing we would come back together. It’s been extremely difficult to financially support the company but we have managed. At this moment in time we are preparing an educational tour, performing our own adaptation of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men. We have been offered support from the University's 'Bright Ideas' team, which we will be accessing in the new year.
Previous Work
We have taken part in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 08 & 10 and also in various projects in Newport like the Comedy-port festival, The Empty Shops Project and National Theatre Wales' Live Art Speed Date. We have also done various un-paid arts evenings in Birmingham and North Wales to showcase our new material.
How did the course prepare us? What did we get from it?
It was difficult leaving the comfort of university. I don't think any student realises the support they are given from not only the tutors but from the institution as a whole. When we all look back at our years at Newport we see it as a place that allowed us to really discover who we are as performers and theatre makers. Giving us the chance to express ourselves without constraints. The opportunity to work with like-minded creative individuals from the film and video course allowed us to form professional relationships and potentially life-long friendships within the creative industries.
The support from the staff has been (and continues to be) fantastic. The lecturers in particular, who are always there to offer professional advice and support when we most need it. But also the students, who hopefully in the future will become our co-workers. We could not do what we do without Performing Arts and the Film school at Newport and we look forward to getting more involved with the university in the future.
