Andy Sowerby

Andy Sowerby graduated in 2008. Here is what he’s been up to since:

Andy Sowerby on the set of Panic Button“My graduation film won two awards and was screened at several UK and international film festivals.  After university I formed a small arts collective called Rhombus Arts with three other UWN graduates (Cassie Ashbridge, Gareth Evans and James Stanton). Together we were commissioned to create an hour-long video accompaniment for composer Simon Thorne's live performance artwork 'Neanderthal'. After this the group worked on several small live audio-visual performances as well as VJing at clubnights and gigs in Bristol, Brighton and London.

In addition to this collaborative work I gained a work placement through Skillset Screen Academy Wales (SSAW) on feature film ‘Submarine’ (Warp Films) as Sound Assistant Trainee. I learned a lot from this placement about sound recording and onset protocol/working methods. This job got me further paid work on another feature ‘I Am Slave’ (Channel 4) as Sound Assistant. I took part in cohort 4 of SSAW Post Graduation Facility. I teamed up with other graduates from Welsh universities for training and practical experience filming short scenes and creating digital animations. Through my work on this scheme I was offered a job on independent feature film ‘Panic Button’ (see photo) as boom operator.

I recently also got a place on the onedotzero_cascade_2010 scheme. Where I formed a group with other creative graduates from varying disciplines to respond to an open brief on the theme of ‘utopia’. We presented our idea at the onedotzero adventures in motion festival 2010. Through the CTBF John Brabourne awards scheme I organised a two-week work placement at Envy Post Production, London.  Subsequently I was offered full time employment as post production runner in one of Envy's busy offline post production facilities in central London.”
