March 2010 - I am now the Co-Founder and editor of the newly formed TV/Film organisation, http://step2inspire.tv/ dedicated to helping new entrants into the industry. We supply current news, job listings (aimed at new entrants), opportunities (funding, competitions), training, interviews and relevant information to help entrants break into the industry.
We unofficially launched 4 weeks ago and have had a unprecedented response from the online community and organisations such as 4Talent, The TV Collective and Filmdirectingwomen, who have shown an interest in working with us. We are not for profit at the moment and want to provide our audience with as much up to date content as possible. We are also interested in working in partnership with like-minded organisations. Please get in touch if you would like to collaborate or support us. Basically we want to let you know that we're here and are supporting the entry level individuals within our industry.
Liana's first network documentary Jukebox Juniors (30 mins) was broadcast on BBC (CBBC) March 31st at 4.40pm.
"I began studying on the Documentary Film & Television course a complete beginner, with no experience within film production what so ever. After the first two years I found my feet and decided my strongest points were directing, producing and presenting. In my final year (2008) I joined up with two of the best cameraman and editors on the course and made two films on dance, one of which, Jukebox Juniors, was acquired by CBBC half way through production. I think the BBC were interested because it was a fantastic story line and the production of the film was very professional. I worked closely with CBBC executives in London, Indus Films (Amazon, Tribe, Coalhouse) in Cardiff and course leader Christopher Morris, to complete the filming in the USA and edit, dub and grade the film to network standards.
Through the skills and experience learnt on the BA (Hons) Documentary Film and Television course, I now hope to develop further ideas for documentaries (as well as develop my presenting and scriptwriting skills). I am currently working at BBC Wales.
Join the BA (Hons) Documentary Film and Television course as they help you to nuture your talent, due to the vast amount of experience of the lecturers on the course, there is no end to learning. I would never have got my film noticed by CBBC if it wasn't for the skills and experience gained from this course. This course gave me a wicked start to my career and the confidence to succeed in this tough but break-inable industry."
