Sarah Evans who in 2006 won first prize in the Factual category for her film Baghdad Bodyguard.
I graduated from the course in 2006 and since then I have been a freelance runner, a researcher and now I am a self-shooting Assistant Producer (AP). I'm freelance which gives me the opportunity to work for many independent companies such RDF Television, Love Productions as well as directly for broadcasters like the BBC. I've tried to keep my CV eclectic with a broad variety of programmes which I think makes me more employable.
The best thing about my career is the variety. The most memorable job so far has been setting up and filming an action sequence in Universal Studios, Hollywood. This was for a CBBC action-game show, and was demanding but loads of fun to shoot.
The graduate films that I made in my final year at Newport, have been extremely beneficial to my career. The student awards I won in 2006 are still on my CV now and they often get commented upon at interviews. I also believe that having a high degree grade has been really important in gaining TV researcher roles, as this proves that you are capable of academic research to a high standard and therefore companies instantly trust your skills.
Sarah's graduation film Baghdad Bodyguard won the 2006 Wales Royal Television Award and was short-listed for the 2006 RTS UK award.
