BA (Hons) Social Studies and Youth Justice

Kerry graduated in 2011.

As a mature student and a full time mum I had many things to consider when choosing a University. I initially considered Newport because of its excellent local reputation and when I visited the Caerleon campus I liked the fact that it was small, friendly and had all the facilities that I needed for my studies and it was close to home.

My experience of the course was really positive. I gained further knowledge in subjects that I was already interested in, the lectures were extremely interesting and even the assignments were enjoyable. The lecturers are always there to support you if you have any problems with the coursework or assignments throughout the course.

I did my professional placement with Women’s Aid and also had training with the local Youth Offending Team, something I would have never have done before the course.

The facilities at the University are excellent, the amount of computers within the computer suites ensures that there is always some available and the library is well organised and usually has everything that you need for your studies and if they don’t the staff will always try to get it for you. The location of the University campus is excellent. There are regular buses from the University gates to the nearest City and if you drive it is only seconds away
from the M4.

I made many friends whilst attending the University and enjoyed socialising with them all both outside of University and in between lectures. The whole experience of University was extremely positive.
