Walking

The City Campus can be accessed on foot from the Newport City Centre within 5 – 10 minutes.  Pedestrian access to the site can be made safely and conveniently via the northbound route along the A4042 Usk Way to the City Centre, and across the river via the footbridge immediately to the north of the City Campus. A pedestrian crossing facility is located immediately to the west of the City Campus site. This provides pedestrians with a safe and convenient means of crossing the A4042 Usk Way. An online map showing pedestrian routes is available.

If travelling by rail, the City Campus is approximately 5 – 10 minutes walk away from the train station

The Caerleon Campus can be accessed from the City Campus on foot via the cycle routes that run alongside the river. This will take approximately 45 – 50 minutes.

Caerleon Campus is approximately 10 minutes walk from the centre of Caerleon. The Newport bus route stop is approx 2 minute walk from the main entrance of the Caerleon Campus.

Cycle Routes

The City Centre and Caerleon Campuses are connected by a good network of cycle routes that are part of the National Cycle Network.

The cycle route follows route number 47 in a northerly direction. Turn right onto Albany Street through Crindau to join onto route 88 travelling alongside the river. At a T junction turn right onto the route 88 that runs adjacent to Pillmawr road then bears right to continue alongside the river. The route then runs alongside the rail way to Home Farm. The Caerleon Campus is accessible via Home Farm Road along Lodge Road.  Downloadable details of the routes are available.

Secure cycle storage both covered and uncovered is available at both campuses. Ask at reception for the code to the secure bike storage room at Caerleon.  Changing and shower facilities are available at both campuses. The Sports Centre can be used at Caerleon and there are facilities on the ground floor in the City Campus.


By Bus

Both campuses are served by Newport Bus routes. For Caerleon, take the number 28 bus from stand 25 at Newport Central Bus Station. For details of local bus services phone 01633 263 600 or download a  Newport Bus timetable.

Our University Bus Service operates between the City Centre and Caerleon campuses and via the Newport rail station.

Visitors should be able to see the City Campus from the Bus Station.

By Coach

Newport is served by regular National Express coaches from London, West Wales, the North, Midlands and South West England. There is also a direct service from Heathrow, Gatwick and Bristol Airports. Check out the National Express Coaches website or tel: 08705 808 080.

By Rail

There are excellent Intercity services to Newport from all major cities. London is one hour and forty minutes away and Birmingham two hours by high speed trains which operate hourly. For those travelling to the City Campus by foot directions are available which takes approximately 10 - 15 minutes. By Road

Newport is only two hours away from London via the M4, while other motorways and dual carriageways connect Newport with the North, Midlands, South East and South West England and West Wales. Both campuses are signposted from the M4. Two useful websites to help plan your route are the AA route planner and Multimap. The postcodes for the University are:- NP18 3QT (Caerleon campus) and NP20 2BP (City Campus).

For those approaching Caerleon from Cardiff, there is no direct exit from M4 Junction 25. Either exit at Junction 26, and join the relief road, following signs for Caerleon, or travel to Junction 24 and use the roundabout there to make a U-turn, to approach Junction 25 from the East.

For car parking at our City Campus there are a number of Newport Council owned multi storey car parks.  An online listing of available car parks situated around the City Campus is available.

Severn Bridge

Fares for crossing the Severn Bridge(s) into Wales (westbound) are currently set at £5.70 for cars. The tolls will only take cash or cheques. There is no toll fare eastbound, coming out of Wales.

By Air
